SPRiPhone Battery

Standard, Premium or Genuine: which iPhone battery to choose

Every SPR outlet offers three battery grades. They all fix the problem — a phone that won't last the day. The difference is what iOS says about the part afterwards, and how long we stand behind it.

The notice in Settings appears on iPhone XR, XS and later models (and iPhone SE 2nd generation onwards). On iPhone X, 8 and older there's no parts notice at all, so on those models the choice is mostly about warranty.

What “Unknown Part” actually means

iOS checks whether a replaced battery can be verified as a new Apple part. When it can't, it lists it as Unknown Part under Settings › General › About › Parts and Service History. The phone still charges, still lasts the day and still works with every app.

What changes is mostly how the phone looks to the next owner. If you keep your iPhone until it's retired, Standard is usually the sensible choice. If you plan to sell it, a buyer may ask about the notice.

Premium: the middle option

With Premium, Parts and Service History shows the battery as Used instead of Unknown Part. It comes with the same 180-day warranty as Genuine. Customers who choose it usually want the longer cover without paying for the top grade.

Genuine: when the Settings notice matters to you

Genuine grade is the one that shows Genuine Apple Part in Settings. It costs the most of the three. It makes sense when the phone is still worth a good amount second-hand, or when you simply want nothing unusual in Settings.

What people actually pick

Across our 16 outlets, in the last 90 days about half of iPhone battery customers chose Standard, about a third chose Premium, and the rest chose Genuine. There's no wrong answer — choose based on how long you'll keep the phone.
