Five checks, in this order
- Try a different cable and plug. Half of charging complaints end here.
- Look into the port with a torch. Pocket lint packs in hard and stops the plug seating fully.
- Wiggle the plug gently. If charging starts and stops, it's the port or the cable, not the battery.
- Try a MagSafe or wireless charger if your model has one. If wireless works but the cable doesn't, the port is the problem.
- Check Settings › Battery › Battery Health. A low Maximum Capacity plus slow charging points at the battery.
It's probably the battery if…
- It charges, but the percentage jumps around or drops suddenly.
- It stops at 80% and won't go higher even with Optimised Charging turned off.
- It only stays on while plugged in.
It's probably the port if…
- Nothing happens at all with any cable, but wireless charging works.
- The plug feels loose or falls out.
- You see “Liquid detected in Lightning/USB-C connector”.
Port and battery are different jobs. At the outlet, the technician tests both before quoting, so you only pay for the part that's actually failing.
